Iglesia Parroquial de San Bartolomé
Parish Church of Saint Bartholomew

The Church of Saint Bartholomew, built in 1483 next to the castle, is a Gothic-Mudejar temple with three naves and no transept, featuring pointed arches resting on cruciform pillars. Several side chapels stand out, such as that of Saint Andrew (1504), founded by Don Gonzalo Ruiz de Lucena, and that of Our Lady of La Fuensanta, patron saint of Espejo, built in 1739 after the abandonment of her former hermitage.

Among its artistic treasures, the Altarpiece of Saint Andrew stands out — a work of Cordoban Renaissance art created by Pedro de Romana, depicting scenes of the saint’s martyrdom alongside episodes from the life of Jesus.

Chapel of Saint Michael

The Chapel of Saint Michael, located in the southwest of Paseo de Andalucía, was built in 1790 on the former houses donated by the priest Miguel de Castro y Leiva to establish a school for girls. With an octagonal floor plan and a decorated dome, it stands out for its elegant façade with a bell gable and its interplay of curved and straight volumes.

In the 19th century, it was enhanced with elements such as an iron railing in the presbytery, designed by the architect Antonio López Carrillo. Today, the building preserves its original structure and serves as the headquarters of the local recreational and cultural association “Los Amigos.”
