In the heart of the Cordoban countryside, Castro del Río rises on a promontory beside the Guadajoz River, with a history that flourished especially during the Andalusian period. In those centuries, it was a strategic fortified town, protected by Almohad walls that still outline the old quarter.
Known then as Qasira, it was part of an important communication network between Córdoba and the southeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Its urban layout, adapted to the terrain, reflects the defensive and functional logic of Muslim cities. Today, that legacy remains alive in its architecture, in the arrangement of its streets, and in the quiet character of its corners.
