The Historical Museum of Baena is located in the Casa de la Tercia, an 18th-century building originally constructed to store tithes in grain and oil. After the Confiscation of 1841, it passed into private hands, serving at different times as an inn and a prison. It became municipal property in 1984, and the museum was inaugurated in 1999, later restored in 2010.
The museum houses important archaeological collections, many of which come from the Torreparedones Archaeological Park. Among them, the Andalusian material stands out, illustrating Baena’s significance during the Islamic period.
The building itself is one of the town’s most emblematic, featuring a Baroque façade, decorative trompe-l’œil details, and a large porticoed courtyard. The rooms, spread over three floors, preserve original architectural elements such as vaults and galleries.
The Historical Museum of Baena highlights the town’s rich Andalusian heritage through key archaeological pieces that showcase its importance during the Islamic period.
Located in the Casa de la Tercia, an impressive 18th-century building, the museum offers a journey through the history of Baena, with special attention to the Andalusian period. Among its collections, the discoveries from the Torreparedones Archaeological Park stand out, providing evidence of the urban, economic, and religious development of Islamic Baena.
The Casa de la Tercia, a former tithe storehouse, was adapted for various uses after the Confiscation and later restored in the 20th century to house the museum. Its Baroque architecture, featuring porticoed courtyards and original vaulted ceilings, provides the setting for an exhibition that connects past and present within one of the town’s most emblematic heritage spaces.
